I placed a Instagram version of this timelapse on the end in case

I have done the sporadic time lapse of my paintings and inkings for a while. But this last one yielded a longer video and since I love the secret track "I Am The Warlock" by Tenacious D on the Probot project I figured I'd make this time lapse with that song, just hoping there wont be any legal complications... I mean I'm not making money off of the blog, so it should be fine.
A) I started using a thumbnail sheet, I tried a couple of basic compositions and wondered if the celestial figure should be of a greater stature than the main figure. But I decided to go with her floating behind. The main thing was to create a composition that integrates the two characters as one item. So I decided to use a W (for Warlock) as a visual composition. This was the one I ended up choosing.
B) I proceeded to draw sketches for what the Warlock face should look like. I needed to get away from the square jaw line frequently used for heroes and warriors. Also I wanted eyes that indicated that the character is mysterious or have seen some some byzantine and nefarious things in his life.
After that a sketched the drawing in a A4 size and created to clothing for the warlock and the celestial. I e-mailed the line work to the client and after receiving a "go" I proceeded to the painting stage.
The first step was to choose a colour palette. Of all the ones I tried I was in between and dark purple cloak and darker clothes and this one I used in the final piece. The reason I ultimately dropped from using the purple one was that it looked way to generic and in cue with the dark symbols. But the black and wine red with old gold and a hint of green on the pants seemed more original. I could see this character in a animated show or in a comic book. Also when i hink of character design I think of characters you wouldn't mind drawing time and time over, so the Warllock colour scheme seemed like a corker!
C) Is a line over the painting showing how the W composition reads. It is the kind of thing that the viewer don't really notices, but find pleasing.
