Muspelhell

I am overjoyed to announce Harrowings 03 Muspelhell. Specially because I made the cover for it!
Harrowings volume III is a "A Heavy Metal Dwarven Dungeon Adventure to Steal your Soul!". It is a RPG game design for use with Old School Essentials and compatible with Solo RPG gameplay. Please take a look at the KickStarter page to know more, just click here.

It was amazing to be able to join the team and see first hand what amazing things the writers and creators of the game came  up with. Not only I have made the cover for the book but also you'll find more of my illustrations inside!

Inks of October

In October 2020 I too decided to make a daily drawing in ink. The drawings were primarily meens to try out new inking techniques. But as far as subjects go, I wanted to birth stuff I may want to come back and do a watercolor painting of. They are arranged as they are in the sketchbook page:

   As I mentioned on my Instagram post this motif of drawing a magical cat is a self imposed tradition that started in 2017 with me redrawing a drawing I have made in 2011. Since then every Inktober I have made one magical cat, usually on the 13th. 

   Here are all of them:

Porcelain Warforged Druid

  This was my first time drawing a warforged character. As someone who primarily played 3rd edition of D&D and homebrew stuff I wasn't too familiar with this race. So after some image search I came to realize that they really have a mechanic feel to their anatomy with only hints of organic figure. Almost like a "fantasy robot". However this character in particular was different because he wasn't supposed to be made out of metal, wood and stone, but porcelain.

  On top of that he was described to be a druid with shape shifting abilities. And specifically with one arm turning into that of a bear! So I imagined him as a human body simulacrum of leather and natural fibers with moving plates of porcelain that can change shape. On his body I added a collection of natural items and flora. The character doesn't need clothes, but I added some fur pieces along with the equipment. I always feel like adventurers should have a random assortment of stuff.

  Overall I really liked the concept for this one. And it was great to work on it!

This painting was a request I filled on r/characterdrawing and amazingly enough I received for this art alone more upvotes than what I have ever received on every post I have ever made on reddit in the two years I have been using the site... So I really felt the love with this one. ♥

I like to fish out some requests like this one on TRPG communities to keep my skills as a commission based artist fresh, and because they are fun to do! Additionally I am hopeful that I'm doing something for someone who couldn't otherwise afford to have their character drawn by paying. In other words: I am open for commissions, but do not ask me for requests directly.

Goliath Barbarian [Commission]

This time I'm talking about the process of my latest commission work. The client gave me a fairly great description of what was wanted: A female barbarian goliath that was raised in a farm by halflings! The goliath race (a type of giant available as a player race for D&D 5th edition), is a race I was anxious to draw for the first time.

Scanner problems? Here is the FIX hopefully

As I tried to scan my latest work I discovered that my scanner had a white line running on the digitized image. I confirmed by scanning the cover of a sketchbook.

I had to search for a couple of days what the problem was... Meanwhile I really pondered on how artists that mainly use digital art have it easy! Maybe I should make the switch too. ☺ 

Then let me tell you... If you look at any official support given by HP (the unfortunate brand I use) you're out of luck! Their information on how to fix it sucks. It is the old "turn off and on again and clean the glass..." duh-doy.

Warlock and Fallen Celestial [Commission]

I placed a Instagram version of this timelapse on the end in case
the blogger video host isn't working.

I have done the sporadic time lapse of my paintings and inkings for a while. But this last one yielded a longer video and since I love the secret track "I Am The Warlock" by Tenacious D on the Probot project I figured I'd make this time lapse with that song, just hoping there wont be any legal complications... I mean I'm not making money off of the blog, so it should be fine.

Hello! It is Viny here. 

I'm starting a new page online. Far from being my first time blogging, but this time around I'll focus on being descriptive of my creative process, and I'll geek out on art stuff! Which for artists (aspiring artists, fans, spectators, friends, voyeurs etc) may be an interesting resource. 

I have been meaning to pull the trigger on doing an art blog for a while. I was discouraged from doing it on my portfolio-box site because it has a limit of entries, and I also got discouraged from using my Deviant Art for blogging because the new layout of that site is kind of disagreeable with my tastes... The old layout was so adorable! Oh dear... but I digress. 

I have used blogspot before, and if the platform is good enough for people like Paolo Rivera and James Gurney, I am sure I can wear the "blogspot badge" proudly as well! And even though their pages are far more inspiring, I vouch to do my own thing and give the world my own weird contribution!
